BER is the calculated energy use for space and hot water heating, ventilation and lighting based on standard occupancy. A BER is similar to the energy label for a household electrical appliance like your fridge. The label has a scale of A-G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and will tend to have the lowest energy bills. - See more at: http://www.seai.ie/Your_Building/BER/BER_FAQ/FAQ_BER/General/What-is-a-BER-.html#sthash.QgYrs8Ld.dpuf
Better Energy Home Grants from SEAI
Grants are available for improving the energy efficiency of Irish homes and thereby reducing energy consumption through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). New higher levels of grants were introduced in 2021. An energy rating certificate (BER Cert) is required as part of the grant application process. Your BER Assessor will complete a survey indicating the energy efficiency improvements achieved by the work that has been completed.
Improvement works towards which grants are available include:
- Attic insulation
- Wall insulation - internal dry lining, external insulation or cavity filling
- Heating Control upgrades
- Solar Heating
- Heat pump systems (please see Technical Assessment for further information)
For more information please see the SEAI's web site:
